Take care in working or mowing around your well. A damaged casing could jeopardize the sanitary protection of your well. To be safe do not pile grass, leaves or landscaping materials around your well.
During the winter pipes can freeze and burst. To prevent the freezing of your water pipes, close openings or vents in crawlspaces and insulate your pipes to avoid damage.
Go outside and look for any cracks in the well cap or breaks in the electrical conduit. Bugs love to live inside well caps. If the cap is cracked, it may be necessary to replace the cap, flush and chlorinate the well.
Most pump failures happen because of a bad or failed tank. One way to test your water tank is after your pump has shut off, run the cold water in a bucket in your laundry tub and see how many gallons you get before your pump turns on.
One of the most important things you should know is how to shut the power off to your pump. Maybe it's an on/off switch, unplugging the plug, or shutting off a circuit breaker inside the circuit box.
I recommend planting flowers, small shrubs or putting a fake rock over the well. Don’t plant trees next to your well. After 5-10 years-that tree will grow and we won’t be able to get a truck next to the well if it needs repairing.
Low Water Pressure: Low water pressure can happen because of many things: A plugged water filter, plugged water softener or issues inside the well. Call us to discuss the issue, we can advise you a course of action and often give you simple tests you can try at home.
Septic: Make sure to inspect and pump your septic system as recommended by your local health department, typically every three to five years. Failing septic systems could cause ground water contamination.
